Abstract

Results on magnetic properties, electrical resistivity, magnetore-sistance and specific heat of PrNi2B2C (Prl221) are reported. The behavior of Prl221 deviates strongly from that of “normal” magnetic borocarbides R1221 (R=Gd-Tm) and is similar to some extent to that of anomalous heavy-fermion Ybl221. Superconductivity suppression rate |δTc/δx| for (Y1-xPr x )1221 and TN for Prl221 are much larger than estimated from the de Gennes scaling roughly valid for “normal” Rl221. An enhanced linear contribution to the specific heat is observed above TN with an linear coefficient of 250 mJ/mol K2. Possible reasons for the anomalous behavior of Prl221 are discussed.
