The two nuclear superfluids in a rotating field: Competition between T = 0 and T = 1 pairing

Abstract

In N = Z nuclei one may encounter two fundamentally different pairing modes, both composed of neutron proton pairs, but of either isoscalar or isovector type. In this lecture, we discuss the role of isoscalar pairing with respect to the Wigner energy and we address the competition of isoscalar and isovector pairing in rotating nuclei. Both the additional binding in N = Z nuclei as well as the recently observed shift of the crossing frequencies can find a microscopical explanation via the isoscalar, T = 0, pairing correlations.
