Abstract

Iterative equalization and decoding techniques have recently been applied to magnetic recording channels, and promise to deliver coding gains on the order of 5 dB. This paper surveys the most recent results on iterative decoding for storage systems, with an emphasis on performance evaluation and practical implementation issues.
