Abstract
Communication is one of the contemporary’ success’ words. It conjures up ideas of successful action and change: ‘getting our message across’, ‘running public information campaigns’, ‘changing attitudes’, ‘raising awareness’, ‘setting the agenda’, ‘managing a public image’. These are the types of positive, success-orientated ways that our contemporaries talk about communication in public life.
