Abstract

High energy gamma astronomy is nowadays a very exciting research field. The results obtained by detectors placed on board of satellites or by ground-based instruments have shown that the universe is full of gamma-ray sources accessible to measurements. For the first time in history, present technological developments make possible to open a new window to the study of the universe in the GeV-TeV energy range. Very sensitive detectors to be launched on satellites or to be placed on ground are under construction. In this paper an overview of the time evolution and present status of gamma-ray detectors is presented.
