Abstract

The role of feedback in galaxy formation is reviewed. Feedback occurs via outflows and photoionization produced by massive stars, supernova explosions and tidal interactions between protodisks and dark matter, and the interaction of supermassive black holes with their environment in galactic nuclei. Feedback may account for the star formation rate in, and sizes of, galactic disks, and the conspiracy between the dark and baryonic matter in galaxies.
