Abstract

Properties of the top quark such as its mass, its decay characteristics, and the tt production cross section, have been studied by the CDF and DØ experiments at the Tevatron Collider. Thus far, all the observations conform to expectations from the standard model. Nevertheless, most conclusions are currently limited by statistical uncertainty, and it is hoped that with the anticipated improvements in the accelerator complex and in quality of the detectors, the consequent increase by over a factor of 100 in data before the turn-on of the LHC will provide the enhanced sensitivity needed to reveal the presence of new particle interactions and phenomena.
