Abstract
-
To use lichen communities as biomonitors of change in foreset cosystems, relating to changes in air quality, climate and/or forest management across large regions and over relatively long time periods, with relatively low cost [[xc1
-
To relate condition of lichen communities to condition of vascular plants as part of the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) programme of the United States Forest Service.
The lichen component of the programme first assesses the initial condition of lichen communities in a region [3], and over time monitors change with respect to climate and air quality gradients, as well as responses to other anthropogenic alterations to the ecosystem.
