Abstract

One of the main limitations in the overall performance of Li batteries depends on the intrinsic performances of the material working as a positive electrode. Of course, transition metal oxides are the most studied Li intercalation hosts for the cathode application of rechargeable batteries because most of TM cations can undergo oxidation or reduction without major changes in their coordinence and then without important structural change. Therefore a great number of works have been devoted to the investigation of TM oxides as rechargeable cathodic materials [1]. Two main ways allow to improve the electrochemical properties of such materials: either by preparing new compounds or by modification of already existing materials.
