Mössbauer spectral study of PrTiFe11−xCox (x ≤ 2)

Abstract

PrTi(Fei1−x Co x )11 alloys (x ≤ 2) have been prepared by melting and subsequent annealing. Structure properties of these compounds have been investigated by x-ray analysis with Rietveld method. The tetragonal ThMn12-type structure is observed for all samples. Substitution of Co for Fe leads to a contraction of the unit cell volume and enhancement in Curie temperature. The hyperfine parameter assignment, on the basis of the Wigner Seitz volume calculation, in the tetragonal structure assesses for the Co 8f preferential occupation. The mean hyperfine field increase, with Co content, might be correlated to the compensation of the core electron polarization field by the 4s polarization field produced by the 3d moment.
