Abstract
I present some properties of a distant population of white dwarf stars discovered in the Anglo-Australian Telescope 2dF QSO Redshift Survey (2QZ), in particular a new determination of the vertical distribution of DA white dwarf stars in the Galactic disk. Photometry extracted from the Early Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey considerably improves our analysis by providing (1) an independent confirmation of the white dwarf identifications and (2) an improved determination of the stellar parameters. Our on-going study of the white dwarf population in the joint 2QZ/Sloan surveys should help improve our understanding of white dwarf formation history and spectral evolution.
