Abstract

In a nanodisperse SiO2 — B2O3 — C system, the reduction process was investigated by X-ray phase analysis, IR spectroscopy, EPR and electron microscopy. It was established that a temperature treatment of the mixture is accompanied by the formation of a borosilicate glass-like system. The carbothermal reduction of borosilicate melt at a temperature about 1600 K is accompanied by the formation of SiC, SiB6, and SiO2.
