Regionalisation and Identification of Droughts in Mediterranean Countries of Europe

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Water Science and Technology Library ((WSTL,volume 44))

Abstract

A methodology for the regionalisation and the identification of droughts at a pan European scale is described in this paper. It includes part of the activities carried out by CEDEX in the framework of the EC funded project entitled Assessment of the Regional Impact of Droughts in Europe ARIDE (Demuth and Stahl, Authors, 2001). The proposed methodology has been applied to identify and analyse regional drought events from the beginning of the XXth century at Europe and especially at Mediterranean European countries. Regionalisation and drought event analysis can be useful tools for decision makers in water resources.
