Abstract

The environmental legacies of the Cold War have raised concerns over impacts to air, water, and soil. In the past, most countries, including the United States, have considered each of these media as separate, relatively unconnected, issues. Nature, however, does not recognize this artificial compartmentalization. In the 1980s and 1990s, multimedia modeling developed as a means to obtain a complete picture of risk across these media. This chapter describes the need for and the current status of computer-based frameworks for conducting integrated multimedia modelling.
