Abstract
Small rodents such as mice, rats and guinea pigs are often used for experiments to learn about the influence of some drugs on the visual system, especially for screening purposes. General anesthetics are used, but there are many reports on the influence of anesthetics themselves, such as barbiturates, urethane and others on the ERG (Noell, 1958; Ogawa, 1961; Yonemura et al., 1965; Honda et al., 1972; Van Norren et al., 1977). On the other hand, it is not easy to record stable ERGs in small rodents in vivo without general anesthesia.
