Lake Kinneret

Part of the book series: Monographiae Biologicae ((MOBI,volume 32))

Abstract

Three species of Amphibians are known on the Kinneret shores and other water bodies of the Jordan Valley: the green toad (Bufo viridis), the lemon yellow tree frog (Hyla arbored) and the edible frog (Rana ridibunda). This latter lays eggs on the beaches of the lake but only in very quiet environments since this animal is very much disturbed by water turbulence. It also lays eggs on irrigation canals. Bufo viridis lays eggs in pools lacking vegetation whereas Hyla arborea lays its eggs amongst the vegetation of shallow pools.
