Abstract

The work of Richard (1890) is among the first reports concerning the Zooplankton of Lake Kinneret. This author worked on the material collected by Barrois. The observation by Barrois that Cyclops leuckarti is most abundant at 1.5 m depth in the early evening is the first indication of the vertical migration of this species in Lake Kinneret. Gurney (1913), who described the Zooplankton collected by Annandale in 1912, mentioned Daphnia lumholtzi which was not found by Barrois. Bodenheimer (1935) reported four species of Cyclopoida, among them Cyclops varicans. This species was mentioned by Barrois not as a lake species but as a dweller of a ‘marecage situé à l’Est de l’embouchure Nord du Jourdain dans le lac de Tiberiade’. It is obvious that this species is only a ‘visitor’ brought by the Jordan River floods in winter and does not belong to the actual lake fauna.
