Abstract

Techniques for the remote sensing of atmospheric temperature from satellites are reviewed. Methods for retrieving atmospheric temperature profiles from measurements of the emitted thermal radiation are described. The technique of limb sounding and its use both for temperature measurement and for stratospheric composition measurements is included.
