Abstract
This chapter gives a short survey of the logical, set-theoretical and the main probability-theoretical notions and notations that will be used in the sequel. The theorems to be stated will not be proved because these proofs are easily available in textbooks (e.g., Feller [10,11]). In order to keep the text of the next chapters readable the symbolism to be introduced in this chapter will not be used rigorously: symbolic formulations will be alternated with verbal ones. Moreover we shall repeat some main definitions and theorems in the next chapters in the terminology of that particular part of the text.
