Abstract

Twenty K/Ar isotopic ages are reported from 13 mines and prospects in the northern part of the Oslo region. Analyses of clay mineral concentrates from altered wallrocks give support for at least two distinct isotopic events. Upper Proterozoic ages are reported from Eidsvoll gold mines (663–788 Ma). Dates from the Midtskogen prospects located in the Precambrian basement and from altered igneous rocks at Skreia and Feiring reveal a distinct Permian event (237–277 Ma). Less well-marked events of Lower Ordovician and Triassic-Jurassic ages are, respectively, encountered in the Guldkis gold mine and in regional faults transecting Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Permian rocks.
