Petrogenesis of the Larvik Ring-Complex in the Permian Oslo Rift, Norway

Petrology and Geochemistry of Continental Rifts

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIC,volume 36))

Abstract

Geochemical data indicate that all the rocks in the Larvik ring-complex (southwestern part of the Oslo Region), have been derived from a magma chamber undergoing continuous fractional crystallization, but which was fed periodically with new batches of magma. The lardalites represent cumulates from this magma chamber, formed at a late stage when the melts were markedly silica undersaturated.
