Abstract
The following essay is based on an unfinished manuscript left by my husband. The original manuscript consists of a treatise on the freedom of the will which contains several fragmentary inserts, and a separate fragment on the freedom of action. These papers were written in 1951 and antedate the manuscripts of the French lectures he gave at the Sorbonne in June 1952 under the title of ‘Les fondements logiques de la mécanique des quanta’ [1952d], and of his books Nomological Statements and Admissible Operations [1954e] and [1976a], and The Direction of time [1956b].
