Abstract
Chronic hemodialysis can be performed in a center or at home. The latter has the advantage of greater independance and aids the professional rehabilitation of the patient. The initiation of hemodialysis should be preceded by appropriate preparation, including the creation of good vascular access. The protocol to assure efficient dialysis, capable of maintaining the patient in good general state without uremic complications, should be established for each case51.
