Abstract
The technology involved in hemodialysis equipment has made great strides since 1960, largely thanks to constant cooperation among physicians and engineers. The equipment has become easier to use, with industrial manufacture of ready-to-use components. Safety has been increased with automatic monitoring devices. And, lastly, the length of dialysis time has been cut by better dialyzer performance and new synthetic membranes.
