Abstract

From 1952 to 1970 in the Universitätsklinik Friedrichsheim, Frankfurt am Main, about 200 patients were treated with Thorium-X because of Morbus Bechterew. It was possible to re-examine 80 in 200 patients clinically, by röntgenology and in laboratory; additionally 49 of them were explored by questionnaire. In 70 per cent of the cases a lasting subjective recovery occurred and the inflammatory activities were reduced. You can see clearly these results in comparison to a collective of patients, which was attended without Thorium-X. After treatment during the same period one could ascertain in this group a higher inflammatory activity. The subjective complaints decreased continuously only for 19%. In comparison to this, the clinical and röntgenological statement showed no differences. There were no references to damage by radioactivity in any of the cases.
