Abstract
Dr. Harthorne and I agree that the question raised is not so much whether a pacemaker implant should be done by physician or surgeon, but whether the person performing the procedure is properly trained, skillful, and makes the proper measurements and decisions during the course of the procedure. The operator will be compelled to make critical decisions concerning the patient’s welfare and the adequacy of the implant. Despite all technical assistance, the final decision will be his or hers.
