Abstract
In this chapter I will examine the philosophy of the early Husserl against the background of the development of Brentano’s thought. Just when Husserl became one of Brentano’s students, Brentano’s thought took a new turn which provided the point of departure for Husserl’s own development. Then, in Chapter 6, I will present a brief characterization of Husserl’s first period, followed by a few critical observations about the literature on the early Husserl.
