Summary
The usage of polymeric materials has long ceased to be a novelty and they must now stand or fall on their own as materials chosen for a particular purpose. The importance of appreciating the links that exist between choice, manufacture and use as they apply to polymers in particular cannot be overemphasised and will be discussed in this chapter. Those factors which determine the continued profitability of a product, insofar as it is affected by the material from which it is made, will be discussed. The reasons and the course of reasoning that determine the choice are the target.
