Summary
The paper takes as its theme the modification of existing polymers to fit new and existing applications, since there is unlikely to be any large-scale introduction of entirely new polymeric materials. The need for modification of polymers with particular regard to their engineering properties is discussed, followed by a survey of other means of modifying existing materials including copolymerisation, filling with various fillers, and foaming.
