Abstract
In the preceding chapter of this book we gave an outline of the theory of light changes of eclipsing binary systems — applicable to any type of eclipses — of arbitrarily limb-darkened stars which are spherical in form, and would appear in projection on the celestial sphere as circular discs. With the completion of this task the question is bound to arise as to the extent to which the model of a binary system consisting of spherical stars can be regarded as a satisfactory representation of eclipsing systems actually encountered in the sky.
