Abstract

When an electromagnetic radiation of sufficiently high energy impinges on some material (in solid,liquid or gas phase) emission of electrons occurs. This phenomenon,originally described by Einstein as the photoelectric effect,nowadays is referred to as photo ionization or (by scientists having physical background) as photoemission. The energetics of the process are simply defined through the relationship:

$${E_{k}} = h\upsilon - {I_{k}}$$
