Abstract
The gamma-ray satellite COS-B has, at this time, detected twenty high-energy (>50 MeV) gamma-ray sources. Two sources are pulsars (PSRO531+21 and PSRO833-5) and one source has been identified with the quasar 3C273. The remaining sources are as yet unidentified galactic objects. Compact objects in which acceleration of particles and emission of gamma rays occur in a well ordered geometry (like pulsars) seem to be attractive candidates. The analogy with the well defined geometry of quasars and radio galaxies suggests that their nucleus contains a powerful gamma-ray source.
