Abstract
Nicholas Rescher is University Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also serves as Research Professor in the Center for the Philosophy of Science. He has published some two hundred articles in scholarly journals, has contributed to various encyclopedias and reference works, and has written over thirty books in the areas of epistemology, metaphysics, logic, the philosophy of science, social philosophy, and the history of philosophy. His characteric method in philosophical inquiry consists in a distinctive fusion of historical research with the techniques of logical and conceptual analysis.
