Abstract
The typical motion of the anterior and posterior wall of the aortic root in the direction of the anterior chest wall was recently correlated to the left ventricular stroke volume (6, 7). In contrast to this hypothesis, when analysing the pattern of motion of the Björk-Shiley aortic valve prosthesis it was noted that the closure movement of the tilting disc always precedes the end of the forward motion of the aortic root. We have, therefore, attempted to correlate the motion of this structure with other echocardiographic parameters.
