The Influence of Sediments on Changed Phosphorus Loading to Hypertrophic L. Glumsø

  • Chapter
Hypertrophic Ecosystems

Part of the book series: Developments in Hydrobiology ((DIHY,volume 2))

Abstract

A eutrophication model developed for the shallow, hypertrophic L. Glumsø was used for the testing of various submodels for sediment-water exchange of phosphorus. The models ranged from simple zero and first order order net exchange of phosphorus to complex multicompartment models which included oxygen metabolism effects. Eight models were tested for time response and steady state conditions at various hydraulic loadings. Time response, stability and steady state concentrations changed considerably with increased complexity of the models. The sensitivity to the use of different models increased with decreasing hydraulic loading. The choice of sediment-water exchange models in eutrophication models is discussed.
