Abstract
The highlands have always presented a most fertile and interesting field for research. Still, with the exception perhaps of some recent work in human biology, most studies have been motivated by the personal, academic interest of individual researchers. Indeed, the motivations of the three authors of this book have been quite diverse, ranging from a purely academic interest in highlands entomology, to the more practical problems of medicine and laboratory operations in the inhabited highlands.
