Abstract

The nearly simultaneous origin of life everywhere in our galaxy, and possibly in the entire Universe, is proposed as an alternative to the generally accepted concept of a continuous appearance of life. The impulsive appearance of life provides a better explanation to the possible absence of advanced civilizations in our galaxy.
