Abstract

Lamellar compounds of graphite are obtained by inserting atoms or molecules between the carbon planes. This reaction is more or less reversible depending on the temperature (1). In previous studies we observed the N.M.R. of inserted species and E.P.R. in the Li-graphite series (2,3). We found the lithium atom to be in metallic bonding with the carbon atoms, the Knight shift being 1/5 of the pure metallic lithium one.
