Abstract
The workshop, Alternatives to the Nuclear Family: The Role of the Extended Family and the Community in Child Rearing concentrated on the following areas:

The value of the extended family.

The creation of substitute families as an extension of family therapy.

3.
Nuclear and extended family’s supports in the after care of schizophrenic and/or mentally ill patients.

4.
Families in a transitional society.

5.
The growth of extensions of the nuclear family through the use of self-help preschool play groups.
