The relevance of tumor immunology depends partly on the demonstration that malignant transformation is associated with specific immunogenic changes which provoke tumor-retarding immune reactions in the primary host. In the cancer patient, postulated immunological surveillance mechanisms have been out-flanked, which makes the interpretation of immunological investigations difficult.
