Abstract

A prospective study of the distribution of neurological lesions seen during a 5 year-period in 696 consecutive patients admitted to the Institut Jules Bordet, Brussels, a general cancer hospital, indicated that almost 75° of these disorders are due to metastases or to local extension of the tumor (1). Among them, brain metastases figure prominently accounting for over 30% of all neurological diseases seen in these cancer patients, whereas spinal metastases are approximately 5 times less frequent.
