Abstract
The actual costs for planning and implementing programmes for the collection and analysis of environmental materials will vary considerably according to the objectives and magnitude of the programmes, the country where it is carried out and the facilities available; also reading the working papers of this International Workshop on Monitoring Environmental Materials and Specimen Banking one will find a wide range in the cost for estimates for collection, storage and chemical analysis which are not always quite comparable.
