Further Evaluation of the Repetitive Ventricular Response in Man

Abstract

Paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation remain a major cause of death in many countries. Despite widespread use of antiarrhythmic agents in high risk patients, the improvement in mortality has been small. This fact may be due to the trial-and-error approach to the administration of antiarrhythmic agents. Such an approach itself reflects the inability of any testing procedure to detect reliably the ventricular electrical instability which predisposes to ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation and to detect when an anti-arrhythmic agent has conferred electrical stability to a patient’s heart.
