Abstract

Male factors, either absolute or relative, may be the cause of infertility in approximately 40% of childless couples. Retrograde ejaculation into the urinary bladder, a result of inadequate closure of the internal sphincter of the urethra, is an infrequent cause of male infertility. The incidence of retrograde ejaculation, however, may be expected to increase due to the higher incidence of vascular and colon surgery (Schirren and Hupe 1976), the increase in road accidents — transverse lesions (Kragt and Schellen 1978), as well as the increased use of drugs, particularly hypotensive drugs (Holister 1976; Kedia and Markland 1975).
