Abstract

This section of the volume contains five papers concerned with various aspects of the economics of energy supply. The papers treat quite diverse topics: Balas presents a game theoretic model to determine the optimal size of the United States’ strategic petroleum reserve; Cox and Helliwell investigate the possible use of wood wastes in British Columbia pulp and paper mills; Wyman describes a simulation model helpful in the operating design of the Syncrude tar sands plant in Alberta; and Rowse and Khazzoom present linear programming supply models for western Canada and the United States, respectively. The first three studies present basically completed work while the final two papers give progress reports related to ongoing studies.
