Polyester Resins

  • R. G. Weatherhead

Polyester resins can be divided into two classes, (i) the so-called saturated polyester resins such as polyethylene terephthalate or ‘Terylene’, a thermoplastic material used for injection moulding and fibre production and (ii) the unsaturated polyester resins which can be cross-linked, by the addition of a suitable catalyst, into thermoset polymers. It is only these latter materials which will be considered here.
