Abstract
Ultrasonically-guided percutaneous needle biopsy or aspiration is a well-established technique in abdominal and thoracic diagnosis (Elyaderani & Skolnick 1978, Wolf 1978, Reynes, et al. 1977, Goldberg 1978). Schyberg (1975), Westman-Naeser & Naeser (1978), Kennerdell, et al. (1979, 1980), and Spoor, et al. (1980), have described the technique of aspiration biopsy in orbital tumors, and Jakobiec & Chattock have used a similar technique for biopsy of tumors of the lid (Jakobiec & Chattock 1979), as well as for intraocular mass lesions (Jakobiec & Chattock 1978, Jakobiec, et al. 1979). The ophthalmic interest in this technique has centered exclusively on tissue diagnosis of mass lesions by the provision of biopsy material suitable for histologic examination.
