Abstract

Ossoinig (1966, 1971) was the first who described exact muscle measurements using the A-scan unit and Coleman (1972) & co-workers pointed out that enlargement of the extraocular muscles mainly in Graves’ disease can be diagnosed with B-scan techniques. Since that time many invasive diagnostic manipulations have been avoidable. In Hamburg we are routinely using the Kretz 7200 MA and the Bronson Turner unit. To differentiate muscle enlargement from other space occupying lesions we found B-scan to be sufficient in most cases.
