Abstract
The Large White butterfly, the subject of this monograph, is an insect of the order Lepidoptera, within which it belongs to the suborder Ditrysia. Placed with the true butterflies in the superfamily Papilionoidea, the Large White is the “typical” species of the family Pieridae, a group mostly comprising the familiar whites (Pierinae) and sulphurs (Coliadinae). The technical or “scientific” name of the Large White is Pieris brassicae (Linnaeus, 1758).
