Abstract
We sketch some rigorous results on the cubic sensor problem, without detailed proofs. These results, together with the work of Hazewinkel and Marcus in this volume, imply in a rigorous way the nonexistence of smooth finite dimensional filters for any nontrivial statistic of the problem.
